The fight for women’s rights has been a long-standing struggle for human rights. March 8, International Women’s Day is not only a day to celebrate the economic, social, cultural, and political achievements of women but also an opportunity to raise awareness about gender equality and women's rights.

The History of International Women’s Day

The origins of March 8 as a day for women’s rights can be traced back to 1857, when female textile workers in New York went on strike, demanding better working conditions. However, the movement continued for decades, and in 1910, German activist Clara Zetkin proposed March 8 as International Women’s Day. In 1977, the United Nations officially recognized this day. Today, it is celebrated worldwide, drawing attention to the efforts needed to empower women and strengthen their rights in society.
